Xiling Seal Engravers’ Society 2017 Autumn Auction

Price Realized: RMB 7,245,000

This teapot was originally part of the collection of the renowned Qing Dynasty connoisseur Gong Xinzhao (1870-1949). It was purchased by Gong in the year of Dingmao (1927) from Japan and is considered one of his most treasured possessions.

The entire vessel is crafted with a clay-mixed glaze, resembling the skin of a pear, with a luster that is radiant and precious.

The teapot follows the design of a square Han Dynasty vase, assembled from four curved clay pieces, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. The knob of the teapot is square and smooth like jade, elegant and fitting. The details such as the knob seat, the edge of the lid, and the neck of the teapot feature meticulous lines and precise transitions.
