Accomplished Pottery Artisan
One of China's Top 100 Outstanding “Zisha” Artists
“Yang Jianying” was born into a distinguished family of “Zisha” artists in “Shushan” Village, “Dingshu” Town, “Yixing”. She is a descendant of the famous Qing Dynasty “Zisha” artists “Yang Pengnian” and “Yang Fengnian”. Her uncle, “Yang Qinfang”, is a “Jiangsu” Provincial Master of Arts and Crafts, and her maternal uncle, “Guo Jicheng”, is a clay magnate and a senior master at the China “Yixing” Ceramic Museum. Growing up in such a rich environment, she developed a deep interest in “Zisha” pottery from an early age, laying a solid foundation for her future career in “Zisha” art. She graduated from the “Nanjing” University of the Arts, where she further cultivated her skills.
Under the tutelage of her uncle “Guo Jicheng”, her works are known for their ancient elegance, intricate structure, smooth lines, and harmonious blend of form and spirit. Her pieces exude a fresh and graceful charm, balancing strength and softness, and embodying the profound cultural essence of the East.
Building upon the unique characteristics of the “Yang” family's “Zisha” tradition, “Jianying” boldly innovates. She created the classic series "Yang's Eighteen Styles," featuring distinctive square pots and gold-inlaid pots. Her creations, such as the Chinese Literati Pot and the National Studies Gold Inlaid Pot, have become her signature works.
Her “Zisha” teapots, including "Mother of the Nation" and "Jade Red Lotus," have been showcased on CCTV's Finance Channel and have won numerous gold awards in pottery competitions. She has been invited to exhibit her “Zisha” works in major cities and abroad, earning the title of "Contemporary Zisha Master."
